​The word "tithe" literally means "tenth" or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of our income, isn't merely giving "something" to God. Tithing is giving back a dedicated portion of what was his to begin with. In Deuteronomy chapter 14, the Bible explains that there are three main reasons God directs us to tithe. When we tithe 1) we learn to respect and trust God always, 2) those with needs (physical, emotional, & spiritual) have their needs met, and 3) God blesses us in all the work of our hands.  Although God is faithful in his promise to bless us through the giving of our tithe, our motive to give comes from the fact that God gave first. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son..." (John 3:16) 

 

God is the author of generous living; and while we can't out-give him, we can be faithful in giving our tithe with a grateful heart, which is an intentional act of worship.
